At Great Ryrie Primary school we provide a combined science and technology program. Students attend Science and Technology classes for 50 minutes each week led by a specialist teacher. During the first semester of the year the students focus on Digital Technologies and during the second semester the focus is on Science, although both subjects overlap and are integrated across the year.
During term one, the focus is on how to use technology safely and how to use technology to creatively communicate information. Students can be seen creating posters, videos, podcasts, animations and slide shows. During term two there is a focus on computational thinking to solve problems using digital solutions. Students spend time most of their time coding using Indi Car Robots and Sphero BOLTs.

We are well resourced with 1:1 iPads, a class set of Sphero Bolts (programmable robots) for the senior years and a class set of Indi Car Robots for the junior years which teach the very basics of coding using a hands on approach.
The science curriculum at Great Ryrie is taught over a two-year cycle and includes the topics of Chemical Science, Physical Science, Biological Science and Earth & Space Science. During science classes, students learn through hands on experiments. While covering these topics they develop critical and creative thinking skills and challenge themselves to identify questions, apply new knowledge, explain science phenomena and draw evidence-based conclusions using scientific methods.
