At Great Ryrie, all students participate in 50 minutes of Physical Education. We aim to create a safe, supportive and fun environment where students have the confidence to try new things and develop their fundamental motor and movement skills. Through creating such an environment we believe students will develop new skills/friendships and greater confidence. We encourage participation so students can achieve their best. We encourage students to work as a team, show good sportsmanship and have positive sporting experiences that will lead to lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
CROSS COUNTRY
Students in Years 3-6 participate in a House Cross Country day. Students run a track of the school with the top 14 gaining points for their House with some students having the opportunity to represent our school at District Cross Country. The Foundation- Year 2 students have a cross country day where they can earn points for their Houses.
ATHLETICS
In Term 1, students participate in Athletic Trials in preparation for our athletics day in Term 2. On House Athletics day, all students in Years 3 to 6 participate in track and field events for House points and the winning House is then presented with a trophy. All students are given the opportunity to have a go at all field events and some students who ran well in the Athletic Trials run in their event on the day. Some students are then selected to represent our school at a District Athletics Day.
