At Great Ryrie Primary, our priority is to support your child’s transition as they begin their exciting schooling journey, in order for them to thrive. Foundation is a fabulous year that includes: incursions and excursions, our 100 Days of School Celebration, Mother’s and Father’s Day breakfasts, a whole school production every second year and our end of Year Christmas Concert.
Our teachers work with children in their first year at school to learn to make good decisions, solve problems, develop thinking skills, collaborate and communicate. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour program supports students to develop a positive sense of self and relationships with peers. Our School values of Respect, Responsibility and Learning is the focus in our classrooms and in the playground. All aspects of our Foundation program contribute to success at school and in the wider community and, of course, learning Literacy and Numeracy skills are essential. Our Spalding Literacy program is a multi-sensory, explicit and research based method of teaching phonics, reading and writing. In Numeracy we ensure that we create a strong foundation with daily reviews and plenty of practical, hands on, engaging activities.
Our Year Six buddies program is a highlight for both the Foundation students and the Year Sixes. They love the activities, the shared experiences and seeing a friendly face out in the playground. Foundation at Great Ryrie is a happy, inclusive and supportive place to learn!
