Yard Supervision
Purpose
The supervision of children out of class time is a shared responsibility of all teaching staff. It is a legal responsibility that teachers have a duty of care for children attending the school.
Guidelines
· Yard supervision is co-ordinated by a member of staff.
· Yard supervision will be provided for 10 minutes before school and 15 minutes after school by a single staff member, and all recesses and lunchtime by a minimum of three staff members.
· A senior member of staff will inform teachers when a wet day timetable is in effect and supervision will be conducted, according to the wet day timetable
· In case of minor injuries and accidents, Yard Duty Staff will send the child requiring first aid into the staff room with another child (refer first aid policy).
· In case of major injury or accidents staff will send for assistance from qualified First Aid Staff.
· Integration: - The number of integration staff on duty and their role/s will vary with the number of students and their individual requirements. It will be a changing situation. The Integration Teacher will co-ordinate yard supervision for integrated students where necessary and keep staff informed.
