Teaching and Learning

PURPOSE:

The Great Ryrie Primary School community believes that teaching and learning practices should provide meaningful learning experiences for all students, staff and community. The school recognises the dynamic nature of education and strives to improve its curriculum, facilities and resources to ensure the programs offered provide students with essential skills and strategies to meet the challenges of our ever-changing society.

The school endeavours to foster excellence in teaching and learning and encourages a home school partnership that nurtures a shared commitment and team approach to learning. The school supports and encourages continued professional development of staff parents and community members.

The school aims to provide a range of teaching and learning experiences that will:

·         encourage inquiry, taking risks, collaboration, solving problems and reflection

·         encourage the development of respectful, responsible, thinking, productive citizens

·         assist all to improve on and enjoy their own learning

·         develop self-esteem, confidence and independence

·         foster a desire for life-long learning

·         continue to use collaborative processes for purposeful teamwork.

 

GUIDELINES:

The school will endeavour to:

·         foster a supportive, safe, purposeful, challenging environment that promotes success for each individual

·         develop a comprehensive curriculum that will extend and develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of each student

·         assist students to use a wide range of thinking tools, techniques and processes

·         provide opportunities to collaborate, interact and engage in real-life experiences

·         provide regular feedback and the opportunity to reflect on the learning process and individual performance

·         celebrate success and achievements

 

Teams and classroom teachers will select learning strategies that:

·         reflect team planning

·         value and utilise the diversity of staff, parents and students

·         provide opportunities for students to succeed

·         involve students in the planning, organisation and evaluation of their learning

·         assist students to progressively take responsibility for their own learning

·         build upon previous learning and provide programs that cater for individual needs, learning styles and developmental levels

·         encourage student independence, confidence, initiative and self-esteem

·         use inquiry processes and experimentation to engage students actively in the learning process

·         foster and support co-operative and collaborative social skills and learning between students, teachers and parents
