Student Welfare and Wellbeing

Purpose:

The school has the responsibility to provide for the physical, social and emotional needs of each student so that they can achieve the maximum benefits from their school experiences.  This may be achieved through respect, guidance, development of self-esteem, communication, physical and emotional safety and security, and the awareness of the rights and responsibilities of every individual.

 

Guidelines

1.                  Student welfare is the combined responsibility of staff, parents and children.

2.                  “The way we want to be treated” and the establishment of classroom and school norms will be the major emphasis for student management and well-being.

3.                  The Assertive Discipline program will operate when necessary for classroom and playground management.

4.                  Teachers should present a caring attitude and work with parents to provide a consistent approach for the promotion of acceptable behaviour.

5.                  Responsible problem solving and positive self esteem should be progressively developed through self confidence, willingness to attempt tasks, ability to act responsibly and to accept responsibility and disciplinary action.

6.                  The development of appropriate social skills should be seen through -

positive interaction with people

adaptation of behaviour to different situations

respect for property

courteous behaviour

punctuality

use of acceptable language

7.                  Staff will ensure the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct, as outlined in the School Charter.

8.                  Where appropriate assistance will be sought from the Student Support  Service Officers.

9.                  In case of suspected child abuse refer to the Child Abuse Reporting Policy.

 

Purpose:

These guidelines are part of an overall student welfare program at Great Ryrie Primary School.  They form part of the Student Code of Practice in the current school charter. All people entering the Great Ryrie Primary School site have the right to feel safe.  Bullying will not be tolerated in any form at Great Ryrie Primary SchoolBullying is understood to mean any attempt to use strength or power to coerce others by fear in an ongoing way.

Guidelines

1.      Any incidents of bullying will be reported to the principal or assistant principal

2.      Children will be given one warning following an incident of bullying.

3.      The principal and /or assistant principal will contact parents if there is a repeated incidence of bullying.  The class teacher will be notified.

4.      Loss of recess and/or lunch time break may be used as a deterrent

5.      In School suspension will be used for major or repeated offences.

6.   DE&T procedures will be followed if suspension or expulsion is considered           necessary
