Medication Policy

Purpose

Many children are required to take daily medication and some emergency medication.  This school recognises a duty of care to students and the benefit of continual attendance at school.  (Refer Schools of The Future Reference Guide 4.5.2)

Guidelines:

·         Parents are required to notify the office if their child is taking regular medication

·         All children taking daily prescribed medication will have signed consent forms provided by parents advising dosages, frequency, time of the day and a letter from the doctor advising that this medication is to be taken.

·         All medication that is administered daily will be done by school officers who will be designated at the start of each school year.  These officers names will be minuted by school council

·         All medication that is kept on the school property will be kept in a secure cupboard

·         Parents will be responsible for providing the medication at regular intervals

·         Parents will supply the appropriate dosages and/or the means to measure the dosages

·         A daily administration sheet shall be maintained by the school

·         Where deemed necessary a child may have an analgesic administered following verbal parental consent.  This will be documented at the office.  A copy of the form will be sent home to parents

·         When required, emergency medication will be administered following the written or verbal instructions of the parent.
