LOTE Policy
Purpose
Developing communication in a Language Other Than English has significant educational and social advantages. This will give the children an insight into another culture, extend the children’s awareness of our multi-cultural society and develop communication skills in the Indonesian language.
Guidelines
· Indonesian will be the language taught. It will be spoken at all times in the Indonesian classes by the LOTE staff.
· The Indonesian language will be taught through a content based program integrated with other curriculum areas.
· Children will be given the opportunity to communicate in Indonesian with the wider community and interact with native speakers.
· Curriculum planning is the joint responsibility of the classroom and LOTE teachers.
· The LOTE staff will participate where practicable in whole school activities, excursions and camps.
· The LOTE Indonesian program is developed and planned with CSF Course Advice
· LOTE learning assists students to develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar through Indonesian as well as an appreciation of other social and cultural traditions.
· Teachers are encouraged to take part in appropriate Professional Development to become familiar with their roles in the classroom.
