Library Policy

PURPOSE

The library program will complement the school curriculum.

 

It will provide a resource centre for the school’s educational program and resources for the school community in general.  It will be a stimulating venue, fostering an appreciation and greater understanding of literature together with the skills necessary for the retrieval and use of information.

 

 

IMPLEMENTATION

1.        Students will be encouraged to broaden their interest in and experience with literature and to extend themselves at every opportunity.

2.        A teacher reference section will be maintained, providing staff access to contemporary education references.

3.        Resources will be evaluated regularly to ensure that they are relevant and inappropriate stock will be discarded.

4.        New books and materials will be introduced to children and teachers.

5.        The Library will be promoted through displays, children’s work and special events such as Book Week.

GUIDELINES

 

1.      All grades will have a set library period.

2.      An efficient computer borrowing system will be maintained.

3.      Maximum term for borrowing for students will be of 2 weeks duration, and staff for term duration.

4.      Bulk loans will be available to all grades and will be the responsibility of the grade teacher.

5.      Lost books will be paid for by the person responsible at a sum appropriate to the current value of the book.

6.      Grade teachers will familiarise students with library facilities and teach them how to use these facilities, particularly the computer catalogue.

7.      Teachers will be trained in the use of Library borrowing and research facilities.

8.      Consultation with staff will be undertaken to ensure that resources support class programs.
