Health and PE Policy
PURPOSE
Studies in Health and Physical Education promote understanding of physical activity and movement, food and nutrition, health, safety, human development and human relations.
Within this context the area examines personal action: beliefs, attitudes and values held by families, cultural groups and the wider community. This program is conducted concurrently through classroom and specialist programs.
IMPLEMENTATION
Students will:
1. Progress through the framework set out by VELS
2. Develop an understanding of physical, mental, emotional and social health of individuals and the community
3. Take part in play, games, gymnastics, aquatics, sport, outdoor education and camp programs
4. Develop positive attitudes of self and others through minor games, House Sports and interschool sports
5. Participate in and utilise activities and venues that the local community can offer
6. Develop an understanding of the concept of fitness and the importance of physical activity
7. Experience a sense of achievement in physical activity
8. Participate and cooperate in small and large group activities
9. Be encouraged to develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and life long participation
10. Be encouraged to join and become a member in local club sport
11. Assessment will be ongoing using a variety of strategies and tasks including teacher , peer and self-assessments.
The expertise of local groups and community members will be utilised where possible.
