Equal Opportunity Policy
PURPOSE
In keeping with the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act 1995, Great Ryrie Primary School aims to:
1. Promote recognition and acceptance of everyone’s right to equality of opportunity.
2. Prohibit both direct and indirect discrimination. This includes age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, industrial activity, political beliefs or physical features.
3. Provide a socially and culturally supportive environment which promotes positive role models and non-biased practices.
4. Provide an environment free of harassment.
IMPLEMENTATION
Strategies for implementation will focus on the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act 1995 and Gender Equity: A Framework for Australian Schools, 1996 and will include the following:
1. The appointment of an Equal Opportunity Coordinator.
2. A process of support to address discrimination as determined by DE & T Internal grievance policies and processes.
3. Awareness raising programs for staff, students, parents and the school community.
4. Insuring students are valued equally in all aspects of schooling.
5. Insuring all staff, students and parents will be informed of relevant DE & T guidelines and policies.
