English Policy
PURPOSE
Language is a form of communication that encompasses thinking, listening and speaking appropriately and reading a writing effectively in a variety of situations. These language skills are interrelated, interdependent and are developed in all curriculum areas. We aim to foster and develop competency in use of the English language, and to provide all children with experiences that are meaningful to them so that they may communicate effectively with all people.
GUIDELINES:
1. To develop proficient users of oral language with emphasis on fluency, expression and appropriateness.
2. To provide opportunities to develop listening skills so the children can recall, comprehend and appreciate what they hear.
3. Access will be given to a range of material for information comprehension, interpretation enjoyment and recreational purposes to encourage every child to read with understanding.
4. Students will be encouraged to develop an appreciation of a wide variety of literature to enrich and stimulate creative thinking and to enhance their own language competence.
5. To write proficiently using the conventions of writing, which include spelling and grammar, for a broad range of purposes.
6. Fluency, expression and imagination will be developed through activities presented in a meaningful context.
