Emergency Response Policy
An EMERGENCY is any sudden event, which endangers or threatens to endanger the safety or health of any person, or which destroys or threatens to destroy or damage property. This includes incidents, which occur when students are on camps or excursions and while they are traveling to or from school.
PURPOSE
To enable the school to respond efficiently and effectively in the event of an emergency.
IMPLEMENTATION
1. An Emergency Procedures Coordinator will be appointed each year.
2. The school will manage an Emergency Procedures Program inline with DE&T requirements.
3. The school will practice an emergency evacuation, each term. This will be followed by a review of the procedures. Changes will be made as appropriate.
4. At each exit point, maps indicating evacuation procedures will be clearly displayed, for visitors and school personnel.
5. Three copies of the Evacuation Procedures will be made available for each class teacher. (One to be included in the back of the class roll, one copy to be included in the front of the work program and one to be placed in a plastic pocket on the back of the classroom door.)
6. Two copies of the Evacuation Procedures will be made available for Specialist and support teachers. (One copy to be included in the front of the work program and one to be placed in a plastic pocket on the back of the teachers door.)
7. One copy of the Evacuation Procedures will be made available for other support staff. (To be placed in a plastic pocket on the back of the staff members’ door.)
8. One copy of the Bomb Threat Check List, together with a pen and notepaper will be placed in a plastic pocket at each telephone.
9. The Emergency Procedures Coordinator will ensure that the DE&T Camps/Excursions Notification Form is completed by the camp/excursion coordinator prior to each school camp/excursion, in line with DE&T requirements.
