Arts Policy

Great Ryrie Primary School

THE  ARTS  :

Purpose

  The Arts are a fundamental means of universal expression and communication. Study in the Arts gives students a sense of identity as they learn to recognise and appreciate the cultural forms and traditions. Students learn ways of experiencing, developing, representing and understanding ideas, emotions, and values. Through the Arts, children can develop confidence in their ability to create, perform and appreciate.

  Experiences in these areas enable children to broaden their choices of professional and leisure time activities.

 

 Guidelines

 1.                  Students will have access to a range of art forms and experience them through creating, making, presenting, reflecting, appreciating and performing.

 2.                  Through the development of skills and techniques so that Students will explore and develop their ideas as a basis for personal expression.

 3.                  Students will develop the ability to discriminate between performance and presentations in the Arts.

 4.                  Students will have opportunity to experience, express and appreciate Art forms of different cultures.

 5.                  Opportunities for students to pursue individual interests will be made available as outlined in the individual strands.

 


THE  ARTS  :  MUSIC  POLICY

 

Guidelines  - Music

 

1.    A sequential program based on Curriculum and Standards Framework will be followed.

  2.    All students will have weekly music sessions.  The grade 3-6 program will incorporate recorder tuition.

  3.    Great Ryrie Primary School will offer an optional private instrumental music program.

  4.    Students in Grades 3 -6 will be given the opportunity to participate in a school choir and singing group.

  5.    School Concerts will provide the children with the opportunity to perform.

 


VISUAL  ARTS         

 

Guidelines  - Visual Arts

  A sequential program :

 

1.         A sequential program based on CSF will be followed.         

2.         All students will have weekly art sessions.

  3.           The visual arts program will encourage individual creativity,  self expression and self       confidence.

4.           Students will be provided with experiences in painting, drawing, threads and textiles,      modelling, construction, printing and paper skills, and pottery. 

5.           Children will be encouraged to complete assigned tasks in Visual Arts activities.

6.           Students and teachers will work in an atmosphere where safety is paramount.  

 

DRAFT  -  DANCE, DRAMA AND MEDIA


Guidelines  - Dance, Drama and Media

  A sequential program :

 

1.         All students will experience the strands Dance, Drama and Media during their primary    years of education.

 

  2.         Visiting performances will be planned for and integrated into the curriculum.

 

3.         Dance, Drama and Media will provide opportunities to perform to a variety of audiences and to be part of an audience.
